Postmodern Texting
Our first seminar on the book The Anti-Aesthetic was today. The material covered the basics of postmodernism. Having many of my own myths eliminated and feeling a bit ancy the night before, I asked some friends what they thought postmodernism was via text message. The results follow:
Me: Ok people. This is a text survey that im doing tonight. Answer this question- what is postmodernism?
responses:
JD#1: In one text?
ND: A philosophy that attempts to explain things by rejecting boundaries. It deals with nonsense. And really tries to explain things by saying nothing exists and nothing matters.
BM: It's like after modernism. Ha. The questioning of what is. Art life reality and a reaction to those things or a departure from 'normal.' Duchamp is the epitome. Right? Does that make sense. To me its the departure of traditional ideologies but also a reaction to them. There I am done.
RA: Ill email you. Also do you wanna see Notorious this weekend with me and julie?
NH: I would only assume after the modernist movement
JD#2: The way of thinking after the modernist era
JD#1: I once heard postmodernism described as, 'eh...' its like giving up
